8 Surprise Horror Movie Sequels That Caught Fans Unawares

2. The Woman In Black: Angel Of Death

Again, it would be inaccurate to class this follow-up to horror hit The Woman in Black as completely unexpected, as its production was not exactly kept a secret.

Even so, when director Tom Harper's The Woman In Black: Angel of Death arrived in January 2014, most fans didn't seem to know it was coming - and, unfortunately for Harper and co, they mostly stayed away.

In this case, it was largely a case of the audience simply being uninformed - and there's no real mystery as to why the film didn't attract the same level of interest as its predecessor. 2012's The Woman in Black, on top of being a revival of the Hammer Films brand, also gave Daniel Radcliffe his first post-Harry Potter leading role.

As Radcliffe was missing from the sequel, his devoted fan base didn't turn up - and so, where the original managed a respectable $127 million worldwide, the sequel took only $48 million, to say nothing of the largely negative reviews.

Ben Bussey hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
