8 Triumphant Movie Heroes Who Totally Deserved To Fail

3. Aladdin - Aladdin

Walt-Disney-Screencaps-Prince-Aladdin-walt-disney-characters-34460661-5000-2700 Aladdin didn't have it easy growing up, so as a result of his abandonment he became a pathological liar of sorts. Despite the fact that he spends almost all of his screen time making stuff up and insulting his pals, Al still manages to save the day and win the girl. But why have I alway suffered from a lingering feeling that something was oddly amiss here? Almost as if, despite the fact that the movie wants me go home happy every time, Aladdin's flaws are just too much and too apparent to outweigh the "good" stuff that he does in the end. The movie makes an attempt to show Aladdin as a nice chap in the opening scene, where the notorious "street rat" steals a loaf of bread (bad!) and then proceeds to donate it to a couple of starving kids (good!), because, yes, he has a heart of gold deep down inside, this one. As soon as Aladdin gets his mitts around the magic lamp, though, he begins his epic journey to the Land of Fabrication (and in case my meaning has been muddled there, I'm talking about the fact that he just begins to lie about everything). He lies to Princess Jasmine on multiple occassions: firstly, he tells her that he's a prince. When she discovers this to be inaccurate, he makes up another lie about how he likes to dress up as a commoner to escape the pressures of palace life. When Genie tries to warn Aladdin about how lying is going to get him into trouble, Aladdin opts to scream at his best friend like a total douchebag and storms out. All this fibbing just proves that Aladdin probably didn't deserve that happy ending quite as much as the movie wants us to believe he did.
