8 Ways Avengers: Infinity War Proves Marvel Have Learnt From Their Mistakes
5. Teasing Future Movies Doesn't Take Precedent
For as good as previous ensemble Avengers movies have been, they've often stretched themselves a little thin by attempting to set up a new phase of future films.
Whether it was as frustratingly ham-fisted as having Thor go off on his own side quest in Age of Ultron for a set up that didn't even happen in Thor: Ragnarok, or introducing Black Panther in Civil War in time for his debut solo flick, even when done well, Marvel having one eye on the future has often come at the detriment of the here and now.
Fortunately, Infinity War is squarely focused on a singular story. With the exception of an obvious set up for the untitled Avengers 4, the latest flick isn't concerned with teasing future spin-offs for its side characters, which is a relief considering just how much attention Thanos' story needed to live up to six years of hype.
So many of the previous flicks have had their stakes lowered by knowing the entirety of Marvel's slate in advance, but Infinity War doesn't have any of that, and it feels like future films will be in service of it, rather than the other way around.
