8 Ways Doctor Strange Is Basically The New Iron Man
1. Marvel Will Need A New 'Central' Hero Soon
The unfortunate reality of the movie business is that all good things must come to an end. Those on-screen fictional characters can endure forever but off-screen, people can move on, pass on or simply outstay their welcome.
And Robert Downey Jr., sadly, is dangerously close to being released from his obligations to the Iron Man character. It's common knowledge that the actor's contractual commitments to the Marvel universe are waning, leaving him free to jump ship after a couple more movies. Whether he chooses to or not is still up in the air, but Marvel are evidently preparing for the worst.
How? Doctor Strange.
Whether Downey leaves in three years or stays a little bit longer, eventually, he'll be done playing the character - he'll grow too old, too bored, the studio will want a change or audiences will move on - and Marvel knows it.
Kevin Feige is notorious for planning his film slate years and years in advance (he's mentioned the studio has information on the MCU spanning all the way up to 2028), so it's likely they've anticipated the departure of their biggest hero and are taking the necessary steps to replace him.
So, perhaps Doctor Strange feels like the new Iron Man... because he is. Because Marvel need him to be. They're one of the most successful companies in the film industry, and it's unlikely they'll want to give that title up anytime soon.
