8 Worst And Most Desperate Movie Publicity Stunts Ever
3. Fake Premiere Stabbing - My Soul To Take
My Soul To Take is a loveably weird effort from the late Wes Craven, director of A Nightmare On Elm Street and The Hills Have Eyes. The movie follows a bunch of teens being stalked by a resurrected serial killer, and a whole lot of weirdness ensues. The publicity team wanted to whip up some controversy for it, and had the bright notion of staging a stabbing during the movie’s New York premiere. Needless to say, this wasn’t well received, although not for the reasons you may be thinking.
A video was posted to YouTube showing a couple of guys getting into an argument, with one pulling a clearly fake rubber knife and stabbing the other. The whole incident was transparently phoney from the start, and instead of generating talk about My Soul To Take it turned viewers off from it.
Still, the film have become something of a cult item since, proving even lesser Craven is still worth a look.
