9 Iconic Comic Book Storylines That Sucked In Movies
5. The Cursed Earth Saga - Judge Dredd
The 1995 movie version of Judge Dredd did many, many things wrong. In the comic Dredd’s face is never shown, but since they hired Stallone he has his helmet off with the first fifteen minutes. Worse on a macro scale, they turned the dark satire of the comic into a brainless action flick and pillaged it for classic stories they could ruin.
This includes The Cursed Earth saga, where Dredd had to venture into the hostile desert surrounding Mega City One. It’s an epic story featuring mutants, cloned dinosaurs, killer robots and even a bloodthirsty clan war between Burger King and McDonald’s over which franchise is the best. This story is condensed into a small section of the film, where Dredd crashes and is taken hostage by a cannibal clan.
He breaks free, kills them all and for some reason brings “comic relief” Rob Schneider with him (instead of brutally snapping his neck just to shut him up). It was nice to see some of the visuals of the Cursed Earth realised, but it's a saga that deserved a film to itself.
