9 Upcoming Movies That Could Be Franchise Killers

5. Mechanic: Resurrection

Jason Statham The Mechanic
CBS Films

The Mechanic was that mildly entertaining Jason Statham movie where he punched, kicked and shot a lot of dudes, and also drove a fast car. No not that one, the other one! It was acceptable Friday night entertainment but most fans will have left their memories of it back in 2011, and never given it a second thought since.

Statham has branched out in recent years, taking supporting roles in the movies like Furious 7 and Spy rather than play the lead in his own ventures. This was a smart choice since his filmography was beginning to blur together, but his decision to go back to do a sequel to one of his most forgettable movies doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.

He might just be trying to remind people he’s still a leading man in his own way, but if that’s the case he should have chosen a more interesting project than this. Nobody is looking forward to or talking about Resurrection, and odds are even fewer people will go see it.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
