ALF Set To Crash Land In Cinemas Says Shows Creator

Hide your cats - ALF is back.

Hide your cats - ALF is back. That's right, the furry little bugger from the planet Melmac is set for his big screen return after years in the wilderness according to the show's creator Paul Fusco, who spoke to The Hollywood Reporter recently. According to Fusco, the character of Gordon Shumway (nicknamed ALF - Alien Life Form) will be re-imagined for a big screen revival as opposed to a new version of his classic TV series that ran for several years in the US. Jordan Kerner - the man behind the Smurf's first movie - will produce and has stated that the film will be a mixture of CGI and live action. It is unclear if ALF will appear as a puppet at all throughout the movie but this is unlikely given the success of the Paul movie. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the original show, ALF was the tale of a sarcastic, lazy alien who crash lands on Earth after following an amateur radio signal emanating from an average American family's garage. After finding the fuzzy alien the family take him in (like you do) and hide him away from the US Military's Alien Task Force, a specialist group out to locate the alien 'invader' and send him away for testing. ALF/Gordon is quickly accepted as a member of the family but his relationship with the family cat is not so harmonious as he often tries to eat it. There has been talk of bringing the show back several times over the years but for one reason or another it hasn't come to pass. The show enjoyed 4 years of great ratings before the network cancelled it before a suitable conclusion could be reached, something the show's creators deemed a breech of contract. A TV movie picking up where the show left off was released in 1996 but wasn't enough to revive the character's career. What do you think? Is there a place for ALF in 2012? Is there room for another alien buddy movie after Paul? Let us know below.
