4. The Trailers Only Showed The First Act

The Theory: The trailers have only shown footage from the movie's first 40 minutes, and the main bulk of the narrative actually follows David and Elizabeth Shaw's investigation of the Engineers' homeworld.

The Truth: The trailers unfortunately went pretty much the opposite way and gave most of the movie away for free, bar some of David's crucial exposition in the middle of the movie and that twist ending.

Basically, the fates of the main Covenant crew and the nature of the final battle were all abundantly clear from trailers released several months ago, likely due to Fox wanting to emphasise the presence of an alien resembling the classic xenomorph after Prometheus let a lot of fans down in that department.
