Alternative Oscars 2018: The Nominees & Winners For Every Category
5. Best Actress
WINNER: Frances McDormand (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri)
The Academy really screwed this category up, nominating Meryl Streel for her performance in The Post which was totally rock solid, but Oscar worthy? Not a chance.
This is especially frustrating as there were countless more deserving performances this year, notably the brilliant Vicky Krieps, who impressively held her own against Daniel Day-Lewis in Phantom Thread, and A Fantastic Woman's Daniela Vega, who despite an impassioned campaign from the movie's supporters, was also snubbed for a well-deserved nod.
In terms of more left-field candidates, Brooklynn Prince gave one of the most staggeringly believable child performances in movie history in The Florida Project, so while she was always a slim prospect, it would've been fantastic to see her in the field.
The award itself, though, was always going to Frances McDormand, as it absolutely should. She's a force of nature in the movie and nothing quite managed to touch her this past year.
RUNNERS-UP:
2. Margot Robbie (I, Tonya)
3. Vicky Krieps (Phantom Thread)
4. Daniela Vega (A Fantastic Woman)
5. Brooklynn Prince (The Florida Project)
