Avengers: Infinity War - One Detail That Explains A Big Thanos Mystery

It's just a matter of time...

Thanos Time Stone

When Thor failed to aim for the head and Thanos snapped his fingers - changing the MCU in an incredible, devastating way - it was easy to get lost in the moment as we watched some of our favourite heroes dying before our very eyes. Right in that moment, you might not have questioned the fact that Thanos was essentially gravely injured by Stormbreaker (even though it didn't chop off his head) and you probably didn't question how he managed to shrug off the injury, with the weapon simply falling to the ground.

But after the dust had settled, those are exactly the kind of questions that reared their heads - particularly because of the mysterious nature of Thanos' escape from Wakanda. For instance, we know that he used the Space Stone to teleport away, but it seems he also used another Infinity Stone immediately after the snap.

With the film now out on digital, Marvel fans are getting the opportunity to really comb through every scene and one eagle-eyed spotter has pointed out exactly how Thanos heals and why Stormbreaker falls to the floor. It's because of the Time Stone.

If you look closely in the moment immediately before he teleports away, you can see green sparks around the chest wound caused by Thor's attack, confirming that Thnanos was using the Time Stone to reverse the injury. The Time reversal effectively pushes the thunder-axe out of his chest, though he doesn't use the Stone on Thor, so we don't see him taking the axe strike back.

It's the same as the apple in Doctor Strange whose state could be reversed (it goes from uneaten to eaten in a loop) without their needing to be anyone there to bite it. But this does make you wonder why Thanos doesn't use the Stone to reverse the damage done by the Gauntlet to his own arm. Presumably, there must be a reason why it's irreversible in his mind - perhaps that sort of magical damage is just too much to reverse and the Gauntlet requires its user to feel some lasting cost to themselves? That would certainly fit.
