Batman V Superman: 9 Things Nobody Predicted

6. Minimal Dark Knight Returns References

Going in to Batman v Superman, many were predicting that Frank Miller€™s iconic The Dark Knight Returns would be heavily referenced. After all, when Batman v Superman was announced, it was done so using a direct quote from Miller€™s legendary work. But no, Zack Snyder€™s Dawn of Justice pulled far less from TDKR than we all predicted.

While we did get the armoured Batman suit and a more grizzled take on the Dark Knight, that was about as far as The Dark Knight Returns goes aside from a few stolen lines and some redone panels. Granted, we were never going to get a Superman who was working for the President of the United States, or the inclusion of The Mutants, but it still felt as if we may get more Miller riffs than we actually got.

In fairness, whether The Dark Knight Returns was a heavy influence or a mild influence on the film should have made no difference to the quality of Snyder€™s movie, but it was still a little surprising to not even hear an adapted take on the famous €œI want you to remember, Clark€ in all the years to come€ in all your most private moments€ I want you to remember€ my hand€ at your throat€ I want€ you to remember€ the one man who beat you€ dialogue.
