1. All The DC Eggs Are In One Basket
It is rare for a film to have so many concerns around it this far in advance of its release date. This should especially be true of a film with as automatically enticing of a premise as the first ever cinematic pairing of Batman and Superman along with the movie debut of Wonder Woman. In the age of the shared universe, however, fans know whats at stake. The future of DC superhero movies is riding on the success or failure of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. All of the other nine concerns weve worked through on this list, along with those that did not make the cut, can be traced back to this primary issue. DC fans are clamoring for their own series of films comparable to what Marvel fans have spent the last six years enjoying with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It will definitely be DCs own version, as Warner Bros. is building its universe in reverse order by going with a team up movie first (but technically, second) and then spinning out into solo adventures. Theres no rule that says Marvels method in building up to The Avengers is the only one that can work. There was risk involved in Marvels approach, too. Big risk is an unavoidable aspect of blockbuster moviemaking and as much as fans have invested in these characters emotionally, Warner Bros. is the real gambler here, putting up hundreds of millions of dollars to make and market Batman v Superman with potentially billions of dollars in future superhero movie revenue also on the line. If Batman v Superman fails, many of those nine untitled DC release dates could be vacated. Warner Bros. has to know just how much Batman v Superman means to its future, so perhaps fans can take solace in knowing they will be getting the studio's best shot on March 25, 2016.
