Batman vs Superman Movie: 10 Choices For Recasting Commissioner Gordon

4. The Comedy Relief Commissioner: Alan Tudyk

Alan Tudyk No film called Batman vs Superman is likely to be an out and out comedy, but the success of DC's animation endeavours show that there's a definite audience for a family friendly film starring arguably the two biggest heroes in the world. Leveraging some of that market by making a film that embraced the kids who grew up on Batman: The Brave and the Bold isn't just good marketing sense, it also clearly defines the film away from the more realistic Nolan films. Not every film has to be dark and brooding, and Batman is a strong enough character to work in any kind of film, even one where he isn't constantly haunted by the death of his parents and doomed to unhappiness. Sometimes having fun is OK. So, why not introduce at least a hint of genuine comedy? It worked for Iron Man and Avengers Assemble, and it could work for Batman vs Superman. Bringing in an actor who bridges the drama and comedy divide is an easy way to do that. As Wash in Firefly and Serenity, Alan Tudyk was the emotional heart of a group who had more than enough problems and conflicts. He also starred in Dodgeball as Steve the pirate, and is currently in Suburgatory, demonstrating that he can do full on comedy and drama just as easily. Casting him as Commissioner Gordon isn't exactly fitting to the type that has been previously established, but it may just be time for Snyder to steer the film away from the usual tired ground of gloomy, dreary emoting.
