Borat Subsequent Moviefilm Review: 7 Ups & 3 Downs
1. It Recycles The Original's Formula
While it wouldn't be fair to call Borat 2 a lazy sequel, it does more or less cling to the formula that proved so successful the first time, albeit with some necessary additions.
Borat travels to the U.S., spends a huge chunk of the film hurling himself into toe-curlingly cringe-worthy interactions with some of the least-desirable quarters of America, and eventually crosses paths with a famous face (or two) in the third act.
There are smart changes, of course, between the film's of-the-moment social commentary and switching out Borat's producer Azamat for his daughter, but for the most part Borat Subsequent Moviefilm doesn't offer up a particularly revolutionary reinvention of what worked so well back in 2006.
