20 INSANE Horror Sequels We Almost Got

2. Alien 5

Following the release of Alien prequel Prometheus in 2012, it was announced that the next entry in the franchise would be a direct sequel to James Cameron's Aliens, with District 9's Neill Blomkamp set to direct.

Alien 5 would effectively ignore the events of Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection, allowing Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver), Corporal Hicks (Michael Biehn), and Newt (Carrie Henn) to all appear, as the trio fight to stop Weyland-Yutani from weaponising Xenomorphs on Earth.

Sigourney Weaver called Blomkamp's script "amazing," and Ridley Scott soon enough came aboard as a producer, but it was abruptly shelved in 2015 when Fox decided to instead make Scott's Prometheus sequel Alien: Covenant.

The news left many fans devastated, given that Weaver is the heart and soul of the Alien franchise despite how divisively her character was handled in her last two cinematic outings.

Blomkamp's Alien 5 could've course-corrected it all, even if his own topsy-turvy filmography would've probably resulted in some rough edges.
