Captain Marvel Movie: 5 Things You Need To Know

3. And A Huge Fan Base

Despite being totally awesome, the good Captain's never been one of Marvel's biggest sellers. She's had multiple solo series (previously under the Ms Marvel banner) which never really took off, alwas being cancelled after a couple dozen issues; she's been a part of every superhero team going, usually for similarly brief periods; and, really, neither writers nor readers knew what to do with her. That's all changed in recent years, with writer Kelly Sue Deconnick coming on board and quickly amassing a cult following of dedicated fans. The Carol Corps, as they're known (and that's a brilliant name innit), are probably the reason this film's being made. Their obsessive reading of the book hasn't quite translated into blockbuster sales yet, but its that sort of rabid fandom that makes or breaks films these days - from the huge popcorn flicks Marvel puts out to the endless churn of Young Adult adaptations, the promotion for these things comes as much from well-financed marketing departments as superfans ranting about the thing the love on Tumblr.
