Chris Nolan's Movies Ranked Worst To Best

2. The Dark Knight

The Dark Knight Joker
Warner Bros.

This film very nearly took the top spot on this list. It is a damn near perfect film, with Heath Ledger's Joker becoming an instantly iconic character in the history of cinema.

Much like Begins before it, The Dark Knight strives for realism in how it tells the story. There are moments when this slips (honestly, how the heck did the Joker get those drums onto the boats?) but these moments pale in comparison to the masterful storytelling on show for the rest of the film.

Christopher Nolan delivered, with the Dark Knight, one of (if not the) greatest superhero movies of all time. From the beautiful visuals of Gotham City to the terrifying, punk rock musical cue for the Joker, the film is both immersive and intimate at the same time. The opening bank heist is now a thing of legend, gripping the viewers from the first moments of the film, while the interrogation scene has firmly entrenched itself among the greatest two-hander scenes ever.

Maggie Gyllenhaal more than capably takes over for Katie Holmes in the role of Rachael, offering a heart to the movie for Bale's Batman to chase. Heavily inspired by The Long Halloween, the descent of Aaron Eckhart's Harvey Dent is the true tragedy of the piece.

If, somehow, you haven't seen this film - do yourself a favour and do it now!
