The classic
Sean Connery Bond film
Goldfinger will receive a re-release across 150 cinema's in the U.K. this July. Glasgow based distributiors Park Circus are testing the waters with re-releasing the most popular films of their Bond catalogue before the release of the
Bond 22. If the movie does well, the company plan to distribute From
Russia with Love and
Thunderball soon after. I've been saying they should do this with classic movies for years. With the advent of new digital technology, the film copies cost as little as £50 each where traditional film prints cost thousands and thousands, so it's extremely cost effective and with popular films... they have a great money making opportunity here and of course it makes us all very happy because we get to see our favourite films on the big screen. John Letham, the managing director of Park Circus spoke of the release...
"The thing about James Bond films is that they work so well on the big screen," he said. "They're designed to be watched on the big screen."
The article which I found over at Sunday Herald via Film Ick, also hints at more classic British movies being re-released, including the original Wicker Man and The Dam Busters with a big meeting apparently taking place tomorrow to discuss the plans.
