1992 sports drama School Ties takes place in the 1950s as star quarterback David Greene (Brendan Fraser) joins a Massachusetts prep school to play football, but is forced to supress his Jewish heritage after learning his new friends are anti-Semites.

It's an interesting idea albeit one which could certainly be bungled in the wrong hands, yet per director Robert Mandel it mostly works.

In addition to Fraser, the cast is filled out by a host of on-the-rise young actors who would go onto much bigger and better things, namely Affleck, Matt Damon, Chris O'Donnell, Cole Hauser, and Anthony Rapp.

Affleck is pretty effortlessly perfect as one of the antagonistic anti-Semites, even if it's Matt Damon who frequently steals the show as true "villain" of the piece.

It doesn't offer up many surprises, but handles its challenging material relatively well.
