7. George Lucas' Sequel Trilogy

Boba Fett Movie
Lucasfilm

As stated, Lucas always had plans for a sequel to the original trilogy, yet kept pretty quiet about what that would entail. Even Mark Hamill knew of Lucas’ interest in a sequel trilogy. Once Disney bought Lucasfilms, the Star Wars creator has been more open to where he would have taken the series.

The series would have bled into the expanded universe, now known as Legends when Disney made almost all Star Wars media non-canon. The original cast would return and focus on the descendants of the Skywalker family, not too dissimilar to what The Force Awakens gave us, and would focus heavily on the Whills.

The Whills are powerful beings deeply connected with The Force. Lucas wanted the Whills to tell Star Wars from their perspective, with A New Hope created from Lucas’ two-page outline entitled Journal of the Whills, Part I.

There is a little heartache to Lucas’ planned instalments, as the Star Wars creator has made it clear he wanted to tell his story to the bitter end, despite the fan backlash. Despite the errors in the prequels, they have developed an understandable cult following in recent years. It would have been fitting to see the creator finishing his life-long project. Yet, as George Lucas said himself:

"Why would I make any more, when everybody yells at you all the time and says what a terrible person you are?"
