14. Meet The Robinsons

Meet The Robinsons was the first film produced by Disney after their acquisition of Pixar - and the first to be made with Pixar head John Lasseter as chief creative officer, something which is evident from the impressively vibrant visual style.

Loosely based on the children's book A Day With Wilbur Robinson by William Joyce, Meet The Robinsons follows the adventures of an orphan called Lewis (Jordan Fry) who is transported into the future by Wilbur Robinson, embarking on an adventure to find his family. It's a familiar story (orphans always make for good characters to tug on the heartstrings), but thankfully not swallowed up in excessive sentimentality.

Meet The Robinsons was met with polarised opinions from the press when it was released, with The New York Times critic A. O. Scott delivering the harshest critique and claiming it was one of the worst Disney releases in some time. This is an unfair appraisal: it might fall short of masterpiece status but it has enough fun moments to keep your interest.
