Every MCU Movie - Ranked From Worst To Best

12. Thor

Let's be real here: the gap in quality between The Incredible Hulk and Kenneth Branagh's Thor is wide enough to need its own Bifrost Bridge. And it's incredible to think that a film as brave and entertaining as Thor can only rank tenth in any list.

Strengths

Branagh's eye for the theatrical - honed for years as a legitimate Thesp - brings a pomp and circumstance to the Asgardian sequences, and to Chris Hemsworth's performance as Thor that makes them at once exotic but entirely lived in. He makes an excellent fist of recapturing the same strange comic dynamic that worked so well for Crocodile Dundee on Earth too, with Thor never becoming the victim of the joke.

Obviously the introduction of Loki - and the casting of Tom Hiddleston - was also a masterstroke, and the rest of the cast are almost entirely perfectly cast.

Weaknesses

There's a Frost Giant sized amount of exposition (somewhat inevitably), which compromises the pacing and the interest factor, and while Branagh's direction is great and the film's aesthetic beautiful, the story is a little pedestrian and the stakes too low.
