Godzilla Vs. Kong: 20 WTF Moments

1. The Lack Of Credits Scenes

And finally, the biggest WTF moment of all surely has to be the unexpected lack of credits scenes teasing any future MonsterVerse movies.

After both Skull Island and King of the Monsters featured credits set-ups for future adventures, it seemed likely that Godzilla vs. Kong would at least hint at a future enemy for the titular Titans, but alas, there's not a peep.

Wingard defended the decision in a recent interview, saying that it felt apt considering that this film is the end of a four-movie arc of-sorts:

"There was [a credits scene] at some point that everyone had been kind of toying around with…I think it makes sense [one wasn't included]. This is kind of the culmination of a particular chapter, and whatever may or may not come after it, it's cool that this feels wrapped up. We certainly toyed around with something."

Elsewhere Wingard also confirmed that the film's closing scene, of Kong happily ruling over Hollow Earth, was originally intended to be a post-credits scene before he decided the ending needed a little more "pop" to it:

"We originally shot a post-credits scene, but then we ended up using the footage in the actual movie...It was one of those things, when we were doing our final stage in the editing, we realised we didn't have a strong enough ending. Without giving too much away, the actual ending of the film is from footage that we had taken from a post-credits scene. Being crafty in an indie movie way, we actually ended up using that."

Even so, for a blockbuster movie to end without even the slightest nod towards the next film feels practically radical in 2021.
