7. Hes Not Nathan Fillion
I have absolutely nothing against Nathan Fillion. In fact, Nathan Fillion will have my respect forever, but every time a geek property with a male hero is announced, the main name that is brought up is Nathan Fillion, along with a plethora of other geek names, recently Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zachary Levi, specifically for this project. T he great thing about Chris Pratt in this role is that he isnt a geek icon yet. He isnt going to have a plethora of superheroes or captains or spies or sidekicks to Batman that he can be compared to, just his own mojo in this movie as he goes full superhero come August 2014. If a geek king was picked for this movie, then the geek king would get praised and just pushed onto another project, but if we create a geek king with our new Star-Lord, we have another ruler in the geekdom.
6. I Totally Buy Him As A Superhero
Chris Pratt is not a small man, and his stature aside, Pratts screen presence is the main reason why I totally buy this man as Star-Lord. On Parks and Rec, he fills up every room Ron Swanson isnt in and has a lot of fun doing it. For example, some of the other candidates, specifically Zachary Levi, have a certain screen presence which even though it is very watchable and entertaining, isnt the presence of a flying gun-toting superpowered Star-Lord. On the contrary, Pratt has the presence of a gentle giant, and the voice and the walk for a Marvel superhero, because they walk like they know theyre superheroes, with the exception of Mark Ruffalo. In my head Pratt, completely molds with the other current Avengers, and seeing him prove his worth in his own movie will be endlessly entertaining.
