3. Wenwu

Arguably the strongest villain in Phase 4 so far, Wenwu broke onto the scene in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and came very close to stealing the show. The incomparable Tony Leung brings his charm and magnetism to a role that stood out from other MCU villains due to how personal Wenwu’s motivations were.

He was a man who conquered many empires throughout his storied life but walked away from all that power and influence due to his love for someone who could match up to his intimidating presence.

When that was tragically taken from him, Wenwu returned to his past life with the sole purpose of finding a way to bring back his lost love. His grief was embodied in the cold and detached manner in which he raised his children, and his scenes with them (Shang-Chi in particular) were some of the movie’s emotionally resonant.

Wenwu’s portrayal was a fresh change of pace from the MCU’s more generic villains, and held things together even when the film’s third act became a bit shaky.
