MCU Phase 4: 10 Biggest Mysteries (So Far)

4. Where Did The Ten Rings Come From?

The Ten Rings are an enigmatic set of artifacts. They wield incredible power, they are somehow connected to the Lovecraftian Dweller-in-Darkness locked away in Ta Lo, and they come from... Well, we don't know. No one does, it seems. Between Wong, a veritable walking encyclopedia of mystical artifacts, and Carol Danvers, who has flown throughout space and seen all sorts of technology, neither of them were able to pinpoint the origins of the Ten Rings. The best they gave us is, "I don't know, bro. They're really old and really weird."

Of course, this just adds to the allure of the Ten Rings. They're mysterious. They don't immediately fall under the sorcery umbrella, nor do they automatically register as cosmic weapons. In the comics, of course, they were brought to Earth by the Makluans, a race of... well... space dragons. If you know Fin Fang Foom, he's a Makluan. We saw Marvel diverge from the alien stuff a bit, though, making Ta Lo, the Great Protector, and presumably the Dweller-in-Darkness a bit more mystical than cosmic.

So are the Ten Rings still pieces of space dragon technology? Or have their origins been retconned? This will almost certainly be explored in the sequel.
