Minions: 12 Easter Eggs You May Have Missed

3. The Complex Mozart-Hydrant Reference

The one thing you don't really expect to find in a Minions film is an recurring reference to a Mozart opera, and yet that is exactly what it delivers; the various scenes involving the fire hydrants contain multiple nods to The Magic Flute. Papagena, the affectionate name Stuart uses to describe the yellow hydrant when first arriving in New York, is a reference to a minor character in the play and Kevin whistles the opening of Der Vogelfanger Bin Ich Ja, a song from early in the opera, when he's putting out the fuse at the film's climax. Such high culture is offset, however, by the latter also doubling as a urination joke.
