One Mind Blowing Secret From Every MCU Movie
25. Kevin Feige's Web Slinging - Captain America: Civil War
One of the biggest developments throughout the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe came when the deal was struck to finally bring Spider-Man (Tom Holland) into the family. That moment when he entered the Captain America: Civil War trailer arguably broke the internet like nothing before or since.
With a potential deal on the table, screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely had crafted two drafts of the story for Civil War, one with Spidey and one without, thus keeping him from being an integral part, and instead the best bonus in the world if the deal landed.
This was a huge, complex negotiation with a lot of moving parts, and you'd be forgiven for thinking professionalism and corporate etiquette would have outweighed excitement in this particular instance. Board meetings, serious calls, and so forth. However, that was simply not the case.
There was no big meeting to let the writers know they could use Spider-Man, no office memo, not even a word spoken. Kevin Feige, again according to The Reign of Marvel Studios, simply stood in the doorway to the writers' office, silently made the internationally known webslinging motion with his hands, and they knew the deal was done. This just goes to show that the godfather of the MCU is, and always will be, a fan boy first, and that's a good thing.
