Ever since Star Wars made its long-awaited comeback with The Force Awakens, Oscar analysts have been wondering how long it'll be before one of the new movies scores major Oscar plaudits.

After all, A New Hope was nominated for Best Picture and went on to win six Oscars back in the day, so with talented filmmakers like J.J. Abrams and Rian Johnson working on these new movies, why not?

Though Star Wars: The Last Jedi has been met with divisive fan reactions, the general critical and audience response has been far more favourable, so could it translate into the awards love many hoped The Force Awakens would scoop?

How Likely Is It?: Even ignoring the Oscars' sci-fi bias, the film's inconspicuous performance on the general awards circuit points to it decisively missing out on Best Picture.

Nods for Best Cinematography, Best Costume Design, Best Film Editing, Best Original Score, Best Production Design, Best Visual Effects, Best Sound Mixing and Best Sound Editing are all possible, but it'll have to settle for not being a "serious" Oscar contender, sadly. 1/10
