So, your lifelong dream of being an actor may finally be working out? Good for you. You've worked hard for this opportunity, so it makes sense you want to put your all into it. But how can you guarantee you'll wow the audiences? Get rave reviews? Perhaps even (gasp!) win an MTV Movie Award?! Well, none of that matters. What matters in Hollywood is getting the little gold staute, the Academy Award. And the winners of this award certainly don't get rave reviews from the (ugh!) audiences. So here's a simple and step-by-step guide for you young, aspiring actors, and how you too can join the ranks of winners! What's that you ask? Me? No, I've never won an Academy Award. But you can still trust me! I'm a writer on the internet!
Option 1: Play a Politician
One of the oldest tricks in the book, it dates all the way back to 1928 when Lewis Stone was nominated for playing Count Pahlen during the second Academy Awards ceremony. But despite being around all this time, this trick still works today. Need proof? In the last five years, five of the Best Actor nominees portrayed politicians from around the globe (that King George VI really pulls in the audiences!!). While the 'politician' route seems to work best, it also works well with just about any real-life or historical person. Take Meryl Streep. She's been nominated a staggering 17 times for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress. Seven of those times she's been portraying a real person; in Silkwood, Out Of Africa, Evil Angels, Music Of The Heart, Adaption, Julie & Julia, and finally The Iron Lady where she plays Margaret Thatcher, a (gasp!) politician.
