Despite the wealth of incredible video game stories that exist, no one can really explain why there has yet to be successful conversion from game to film. With each new release, fans hold their breath that video games might soon become the rich source material that comic books have turned into, and this year may finally realize that. Two films specifically suggest that a good video game movie may actually come to exist this year. The first is Duncan Joness Warcraft. The initial trailer showed promise and while it may prove too fantasy-laden for some, Jones has already proven to be one of the most exciting young filmmakers around. Then theres Assassins Creed to consider. While its still a ways off, fans are already salivating over everything from the costume to the cast. Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard are two powerhouse actors so expect the material to be taken seriously. Developer Ubisoft is also overseeing the movie in the style that Marvel Studios does, perhaps ensuring that their property will be treated right. Or who knows? Maybe The Angry Birds Movie will surprise everyone.
