Ranking Every M. Night Shyamalan Plot Twist From Worst To Best

The Plot: A group of strangers find themselves trapped in an elevator as they're picked off, one by one, by a mysterious, supernatural entity.

The Twist: The old lady who was supposedly killed halfway through the movie is the real killer/evil spirit. Oh, and everyone in that elevator has something in common: They're all criminals to some extent. Although the "sins" committed amongst the group range from petty theft to manslaughter.

Likely written right after Shyamalan finally got around to watching Saw for the first time and decided "Yes, my next script must revolve around a faked death!", this ending may not be the most surprising in his repertoire, but unlike so many of his other shock twists, this one feels earned. Also, as far as movies about demonic possessions go, it's logical as well.

It's rare these days for a filmmaker to reference Agatha Christie's novel And Then There Were None so blatantly, but give Shyamalan points for showing off his wide range of influences without turning the movie into a paint-by-numbers retread.
