Spectre: 5 Big Clues From The New Featurette

1. It Reveals How Action Sequences Will Be Shot

Unsurprisingly for a series encompassing so many eras and styles of cinematography, the James Bond franchise is often dominated by talk of how the action will be shot. The featurette gives a vital snapshot of Mendes' take on the car chase, which surprisingly differs quite a bit from his Skyfall opening sequence. Whereas the camerawork last time around focused on the ever-changing surroundings of Istanbul as Bond whipped around the streets on a non-descript motorbike, here the balance seems to be shifted more in favour of the vehicles themselves. And why not? They certainly look fantastic. Mendes appears to be utilising many vehicle-mounted cameras to keep up close to the action, while also emphasising an intense feeling of speed and impending contact. This may at first draw worrying comparisons to the notorious style of Quantum Of Solace, which saw far too many quick cuts and Bourne-aping shaky, handheld footage, but Mendes seems to have the composure and balance required to properly pull such a style off.
