Spectre: 9 Simple Fixes That Would've Made It Awesome
2. Ditch The Exploding Watch
One of the greatest bits of Skyfall was Q and Bonds first meeting in the National Gallery. Freshly furnished with a slightly fancier gun than hes used to and a radio transmitter, Bond remarks: Not exactly Christmas, is it? Were you expecting an exploding pen? We dont really go in for that anymore, Q replies. Except, apparently, they do. 007 gets an exploding watch from Q to take with him on his jaunt this time round and uses it to escape from Blofelds clutches in the north African desert. As much as wed all be pretty gutted if Bond was shoved out of the doors at MI6 and into the unknown with a pamphlet containing some useful numbers to call if someone starts shooting at him and a good luck card, the exploding watch feels a little bit regressive. Spectre is the direct sequel to Skyfall, so presumably its only about two months, tops, since Q swore off stupid flashy exploding items. At any rate, itd have been a bit more interesting if Blofeld, in his infinite wisdom, has taken the liberty of disarming it while Bond was knocked out, and Bond had had to fathom a different way of getting away and outsmarting Blofeld.
