Spider-Man: Homecoming - 10 Major Ways Spidey Will Be Different

2. He's Not Very Good At Being A Hero

In Previous Films

In both previous film series, there's a similar theme around Peter's responsibility to be a hero: in both cases he tries to weigh up whether he should be one, mostly because it puts his loved ones in danger, or stops him being able to live a normal life.

Also in both films, Peter actually retires as a superhero, first because he has an emotional breakdown and loses his powers when MJ spurns him (in Spider-Man 2) and then because he fails to stop Gwen Stacy being killed. In both cases, he is influenced to consciously give up.

In Homecoming

By the look of it, the opposite will be true in Homecoming, where Peter doesn't choose to retire, but is basically forced to by Tony Stark when he over-reaches and causes a major catastrophe with the Staten Island ferry. In this film we won't see Peter agonising other whether he should be a hero, we'll see questions arising over whether he even can; whether he has the ability to save his city from The Vulture.

Seeing him fiercely clutching on to his hero identity rather than giving it up first will be an interesting new take.
