Michelle is clearly the third part of the nerdy, slightly alienated group of friends Peter has at school (along with Ned, who is also seen sitting with them). They're the booksmart kids who probably don't attract bullies and are comfortable in their own skin. They're the new Breakfast Club: a nerd, a bookworm, a superhero...

She's also a ball-buster, messing with Peter when he is called away to Spidey-work (which is called the Stark Internship elsewhere in the trailers rather cleverly). Mercifully, there's no real romantic edge to their chemistry, which is absolutely fine.
