Star Trek: Every Starfleet Starship Class Ranked Worst To Best

20. Nimitz

Star Trek Nimitz Class
CBS

This style of Starship was named for the 20th century American Admiral Charles Nimitz. The aircraft carrier Enterprise was a Nimitz class boat, while the USS Europa was Admiral Anderson's flagship at the outset of the Klingon-Federation War.

The ship, like the Cardenas, Constellation and Prometheus classes, boasted four warp nacelles to aid in creating a stronger warp field. While it was a stronger ship that the Walker class for example, it was not invulnerable.

During the battle, the Klingon Cleave Ship plowed directly into the Europa, causing the ship to lose power quickly. Anderson, rather than allow the destruction of the ship to be meaningless, got his crew to the escape pods and set the warp core to self-destruct. However, as the Cleave Ship later appeared during the battle with Control, it is unclear whether this noble sacrifice served any real purpose at all.
