Star Wars: Episode 8 - 10 Major Twists That Could Shake The Galaxy

8. Luke Has A Dark Secret

After a whole film was spent looking for him, everyone is expecting big things from Mark Hamill€™s Luke Skywalker in Star Wars: Episode VIII. Although the character literally didn€™t utter a single word in The Force Awakens, his importance hung over the movie, leaving audiences anticipant for answers in Episode VIII.

How did Luke screw up the galaxy so comprehensibly? Why did he shoulder all the blame? And why exactly did he exile himself? All that fans know so far is that Luke had been training new Jedi, before one of them (surely Kylo) ruined it all and seemingly killed all the other apprentices. Luke went looking for some ancient temple and never came back. It feels like there's a dark secret hidden in that story somewhere, which no-one has told Rey about yet.

My personal prediction for the twist €“ Luke in some way broke the Jedi code during this training period, and resultantly blamed himself for everything that went wrong. Maybe he was training people that were too old (Yoda did always seem to have a massive problem with that), or perhaps he had been experiencing fearful thoughts and began feeling the lure of the Dark Side, consequently taking his eye off the ball and leading his pupils astray. It really was all is fault, and he's not the hero everyone expected.

Additionally, is there a chance that Luke fell in love and fathered children just like Anakin did? Maybe Luke€™s downfall will bear similarities to Darth Vader€™s, adding another layer of fateful symmetry to the overarching story. Time will tell.
