What We Predict Will Happen

Ten years after the new Star Wars trilogy returns to our screens and Lucasfilm and Disney are already in the beginning a second. The last decade would seen the birth of Star Wars in animated form and live action, with standalone anthology films mixed with larger on-going arcs to breathe fresh life into the Star Wars universe.

On May 4th, Star Wars Knights Of The Old Republic Part 1: Birth Of The Sith ends up proving just the shot in the arm the movie element of the franchise needs, with Darth Bane proving to the one of the most iconic movie villains of the 2020s. With the Jedi shown in all their magnificence - something that was criticised in the prequel trilogy, Birth Of The Sith proves to be everything that The Phantom Menace wasn't.

The first TV show ends, with the spin-off going strong, while the wave of nostalgia in the animated adventures of Han, Luke and Leia carries the series through to a fifth year. The Netflix shows largely die a death due to the lack of budget, with just one new anthology TV show entering production in 2024.

Of course, so much of this is conjecture; trying to predict beyond the already five announced films is a lot of fun, but no one could ever accurately predict which way the franchise will go. Ten years ago, the idea of Star Wars episodes VII, VIII and IX would have been a pipe dream so who knows exactly where the franchise will be in another ten.

What do you think? Where do you believe the franchise will go? Will it expand to television as rumoured or will it remains a truly cinematic event? And how long can it sustain itself? Let us know in the comments below...
