8. Whose Side Is Mads Mikkelsen On?
Mads Mikkelsens role in the movie remains a mystery. Given the actors previous form in the likes of Hannibal and Casino Royale, the easy assumption to make is that hell be on the side of the Empire. Stick him in a grey uniform and Mr Mikkelsen would fit right in with Grand Moff Tarkin and his ilk. Its easy to picture him ordering the staff of a Star Destroyer about with a slice of his trademark sneer. But what if its not that simple? The Star Wars franchise has packed a few twists and surprises in the past, so what if Mads Mikkelsen is part of the next big rug-pull of the galaxy far, far away? Some rumours posit that this is the case, and that despite his penchant for nefarious performances Mikkelsen will actually be on the side of the Rebels. Some rumours suggest that hes a scientist called Galen, who helped the Empire design the Death Star before changing sides after a crisis of conscience. This kind of arc could fit into Rogue One very nicely; after all, the Rebels may need an inside man to tell them where to locate the plans. Heck, maybe Mikkelsen even installed that dodgy exhaust port deliberately, as an easy means to destroy the Death Star if the Empire went too far.
