Star Wars: The Last Jedi - Every Reveal From EW's Cover Story

6. Lando Definitely Won't Be Back

Billy Dee Williams said back at Star Wars Celebration in April that Lando Calrissian, the smoothest talkin' rogue in the galaxy, wouldn't be in The Last Jedi. That denial came after a number of long-running rumours that Lando would indeed return, along with the news that Donald Glover would be playing the character in Solo: A Star Wars Story, and it wasn't seen as 100% confirmation at the time.

Now, though, we definitely know Lando won't be in the movie. Of the decision not to bring him back, Rian Johnson said:

"No, and I don’t want fans to get their hopes up. He’s not in the film and it was never really something that came up. I mean, I loved that character. It would have been fun to see him, but it’s just not something that ever really had a place in the story.”

There's a hell of a lot going on in The Last Jedi (which will be the longest Star Wars movie ever), so it's understandable that there wasn't room for a Lando appearance, and it's better to leave him out than force him in just for the sake of it.
