Suicide Squad: 8 Things Everybody Missed In The Trailer
5. Everything's Gone Green
The big talking point from the new trailer was just how much more vibrant it was. The tone of the whole thing felt a lot less dour and, while using Queen certainly helped, the more colourful image was the key. But CGI explosions of paint/magic (depending on what theory you subscribe to) is not the half of it. The image is actually been refiltered. Whereas the Comic-Con First Look was presented pretty naturalistically, this one had a pervasive green hue that gives everything a more surreal, comic-booky (and thus fun) feel. A similar trick was used in The Matrix, there to further create a sense of unease about the reality created inside the titular computer (this was even dialled up a notch in the sequels), but here it's subtle enough that it doesn't feel oppressive. The First Look was notable for being compiled of limited footage from the middle of shooting, meaning there hadn't been any real opportunity to tinker with the image. Now, with the film well into its post-production, David Ayer and co. are able to present something that's visually (as well as tonally) more in step with the finished film. No wonder Warner Bros. were wary of releasing that darker Comic-Con tease.
