Terminator 2 3D Review: 6 Ups & 3 Downs

4. The 3D Is Subtle & Superb

While Cameron doesn't force the 3D on audiences too much, it is bracingly effective in how subtly it's employed.

The opening future war sequence in particular looks eye-poppingly gorgeous, with laser fire blasting out of the screen, and Sarah's nightmare sequence later on also terrifyingly hurls rubble and fiery carnage at the audience.

The T-1000's presence is meanwhile made that much more unsettling with the 3D boost, and though for most dialogue-driven scenes the third dimension takes a backseat, this is preferable to it being shoehorned into every scene in kitschy fashion.

3D will never be necessary to enjoy this film, and some may resent that Cameron isn't simply releasing the 4K restoration in 2D, but as far as post-conversion goes, this is easily one of the best of any movie to date, new or classic.
