Terminator Genisys: 10 Reasons It Could Surprise Everyone

5. It's An X-Men: DOFP-Style Fix To The Continuity

Time travel can fix everything, and there’s no better example of this science-fiction truth then in last summer’s hit X-Men: Days Of Future Past. Like Terminator, the X-Men franchise had become muddled by unwanted sequels and a cluttered continuity, but through a simple plot device, they completely revamped the franchise.

The plot device in question is time travel and nowhere does it feel more organic than in Terminator. Whether’s it’s used  to simply change something about the potential future or to, more likely, completely overhaul the characters’ pasts and send them in new directions, time travel offers up a world of creative possibilities than can essentially wipe the slate clean.

The ability to streamline a narrative, keeping the parts that worked and discarding those that didn’t, is an incredible luxury, and even if it’s only used half as effectively as it was in X-Men, the entire franchise could benefit greatly by creating a new narrative in a still-recognizable setting.
