You would think from the fact that Jurassic World smashed countless box office records around the globe when it hit theaters in June on its way to becoming the third biggest movie of all time with an incredible $1.67bn worldwide gross, and currently holds a strong 71% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, that its a pretty popular movie. Well, that all depends on who you ask. More so than any other major release this year, Jurassic World seems to have split the opinion of both fans and critics right down the middle. There are those that view the movie as a nostalgic reminder of Steven Spielberg's original, packed with high-stakes dinosaur action and a barrage of light comedy. Then there are those that see it as a hollow studio effort designed to cash in on name recognition packed with product placement, one-dimensional characters and a script that isn't great for one that has four credited writers. This writer's opinion falls somewhere in the middle. There are people that really like Jurassic World, and there are others that hate it. While the plot, dialogue and characterization are admittedly pretty weak, as an action-packed popcorn flick the movie definitely does its job. However, it is by no means one of 2015's best blockbusters in a year that featured Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Kingsman: The Secret Service and Mad Max: Fury Road to name but four.
I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
