The Batman: 10 Characters Matt Damon Could Play For Affleck
4. Azrael
Azrael would be a slightly bolder choice for a supporting role in Affleck's Batman movie, but he's a hugely intriguing character who simply hasn't been given enough of a chance to shine on screen. He also serves a key purpose in the comics, which could easily be ported over to this latest film universe.
In Knightfall, and in other comics, Azrael is basically a caretaker superhero who stands in as Batman (or for him) when he's unable to protect Gotham. Given that he was incapacitated by his "retirement". It would be foolish to think that another superhero wouldn't rise up into the vacuum (even Chris Nolan accounted for that at the end of The Dark Knight Rises). And making that figure someone who has done it before makes even more sense.
In truth, any charismatic actor could play Azrael, but building on the established chemistry between Affleck and Damon has got to be the easiest win. And seeing the latter test himself with a darker, anti-hero persona with a strict sense of honour but often more extreme methods than Batman is appealing in itself.
