Before his death, comic book fans had grown used to seeing Stan "The Man" Lee pop up in Marvel movies, but as he didn't create The New Mutants, it's no great surprise that he didn't shoot a cameo of any sort when the movie was filming. However, two big names you might have expected to see are Chris Claremont and Bill Sienkiewicz, the duo responsible for the "Demon Bear" storyline.

That's clearly influenced this adventure, but Boone explains to ComicBook.com that the structure of his movie didn't leave the door open to cameos for anyone. "No, because this movie doesn't allow for any cameos," he explained. "Without giving too much away." Those comments are vague, but likely a reference to the fact The New Mutants takes place entirely in a hospital with just the core cast.

However, that doesn't mean their influence won't still be felt. "This is based very much on the 'Demon Bear' run that Chris Claremont and Bill did in the '80s. So giving them that material and that specific run was sort of the first step towards [preparing for the film]. I sent them that stuff, and Bill was with us for some of it." In Sienkiewicz's case, that involved illustrating the movie's closing credits.
