19. Margaret Qualley - Possession
Remaking Andrzej Żuławski's 1981 horror masterpiece Possession is a basically thankless task, especially considering the endlessly iconic stature of Isabelle Adjani's central performance in the original.
But for this reimagining from Smile filmmaker Parker Finn, the Adjani role - of Anna, a woman who mentally deteriorates as her marriage crumbles - will be played by none other than Margaret Qualley.
In The Substance alone, Qualley proved herself a daring and adventurous performer, and while there's virtually no chance of her surpassing Adjani's basically peerless work in the original film, she's absolutely got the chops to acquit herself in her own right.
The source material would be incredibly demanding for any actress, though hopefully Finn and Qualley will also make this new version distinct enough to provide some healthy distance from Adjani's unforgettable work.
All the ingredients are there for a career-best turn from Qualley, so here's hoping. Don't be surprised if this is the next great horror movie performance that gets ignored by the Oscars.
