X-Men: 10 Theories For How They Can Join The Marvel Cinematic Universe
1. The Black Widow Movie References "Weapon X"
Black Widow was supposed to be released back in May, but it's now been moved to November in response to current world events. The prevailing theory is that the movie will see Natasha Romanoff pass the "Black Widow" mantle to Yelena Belova, while many fans are convinced that a post-credits scene could set the stage for a Thunderbolts movie or TV show.
However, there's also a way for this spinoff - set between the events of Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War - to at least tease the arrival of the X-Men. It's no secret Black Widow will explore Russia's Red Room operatives, and it's then that a reference could be made to Weapon X, the clandestine organisation best known for experimenting on mutants (and specifically Wolverine).
That alone would confirm that mutants have been operating in the shadows - or been victimised by governments - for decades, and a Wolverine tease would definitely grab the attention of fans. It could even tie into the aforementioned Patch reference/cameo in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.
